Internship Opening at the Minneapolis Public School District

The Minneapolis Public School District has an opening for an intern in the Office of Equality & Civil Rights (E & CR).

Summary

Under general supervision, the intern will assist in setting up case files and providing other support to investigators of complaints of discrimination, harassment and bullying; will work designing training programs for MPS students and staff; and provide general support on all other areas related to creating a community free of discrimination, harassment and bullying.

As an MPS intern with E & CR you will be provided the opportunity to:

  • Assist in implementing procedures on a brand new office of the school district.
  • Attain first-hand experience developing outreach with a diverse student body
  • Work in a professional department that is exclusively working on compliance, dispute resolution and non-discrimination education in one of MN’s largest school districts
  • Gain experience in legal research, investigation skills, drafting reports and preparing training and outreach sessions.

Intern Description

  • Interest in civil rights, dispute resolution, Title IX, Title VII and non-discrimination policies and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students,families, visitors and MPS staff
  • Offers support to promote and market student engagement (can develop material)

This is an unpaid position, but we can work with college student applicants to secure approval for credits at your institution. We will hope for a commitment of 10 hours a week, and will accommodate your schedule.
